Study Abroad

Study in Russia 2017-2018

The Carmel Institute and Rossotrunichestvo will conduct a two-tier selection process for full tuition grants provided by the Russian government for language courses, BA, MA, and PhD degrees at participating Russian universities in the 2017-2018 academic year and summer of 2018.

For the first application round, please submit the following to the Carmel Institute at carmelinstitute@american.edu:

  1. Application Form (PDF)
  2. Your CV
  3. Copies of all higher education diplomas
  4. Copies of all higher education transcripts
  5. Copy of your US passport photo page
  6. Copy of your birth certificate
  7. A personal statement of no more than 150 words about your goals for studying in Russia.

Please submit all materials by Friday, February 10, to be considered for the first round. Applicants who pass the first round will receive additional instructions for the second round. Contact the Carmel Institute at the email above if you have questions.

AU Study Abroad Programs

  • American University offers several opportunities to study abroad in Russia. The American Councils program offers three programs in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Vladimir. The Bard Smolny Program offers several options for study in St. Petersburg. For more information, please follow the links below and contact AU Abroad.

  • Moscow State Institute for International Relations (MGIMO)

    This program is for students with at an interest in directly enrolling in a Russian university.

    This program is for students with at least two years of college level Russian and with a interest in Russian language acquisition. All courses in this program are taught in Russian.
